As Bandas de Congo do Espírito Santo fazem parte do Congado Brasileiro – tradição herdada dos escravos – que são festas em louvor a Nossa Senhora do Rosário, São Benedito e Santa Efigênia. Em cada região do país, os grupos tem características próprias. No Espírito Santo encontramos a instrumentação do grupo, principalmente a CASACA que só existe no Espírito Santo, as mulheres e as Bandeiras que carregam. Seu padroeiro é São Benedito. O mito de criação, que surge através de um barco e da forma de tratar o mastro. Todas essas caracteristica vão dando a importância dessa tradição, que é encontrada em várias cidades do estado. Esse CD faz parte de uma série sobre Congado Brasileiro do selo Mundo Melhor, para que aos poucos possamos conhecer essa riqueza do nosso país. O Congado é umas das manifestações mais antigas do Brasil, existe há pelo menos 350 anos ou mais, e a que mais conseguiu resistir e renovar-se no mundo atual. Ele traz valores muito importantes para tentarmos ver numa sociedade mais justa, como a solidariedade, afinal fazer uma festa com muita fartura, onde há maioria são pobres e não contam com subsídios públicos para as festas. Trazem sempre a questão de uma experiência coletiva, onde o que mais vivemos hoje é o individualismo desenfreado, o Congado é um anti Big Brother. Pregam a simplicidade numa sociedade que prega o consumismo. Esperamos com esses CDs colaborar para que possamos conhecer essas tradições, respeitá-las e de alguma forma ajudá-las a continuar.
